How light are the blocks?

E-Z blocks weigh approximately 17 lbs. cured weight.

How do I waterproof the blocks for basements?

E-Z blocks can be waterproofed as if they were a regular concrete wall. Bitumen or tar can be applied onto the clean blocks with a simple roller, or sprayed on.

How do I attach drywall?

If you plan on using drywall in the interior rather than plaster, you must attach furring strips to the block before filling them. This is an easy process. The blocks can be ordered with a groove that the furring strips fit into. The outside of the furring strip will be flush with the outside of the block. With a nail gun you shoot nails into the furring strip so that the nail extends into the hollow void of the block. Each 8 ft. strip requires 5 nails to comply with code. When the block is filled with concrete, the nail is permanently encased, and the wall is ready for drywall.

How well does plaster or stucco adhere to the block?

Very well. The blocks are a cement based product, which makes them ideal for direct application of stucco or plaster. In addition, the surface of the block is minutely grooved, creating additional surface area for a solid bond. Finally, the block surface has been embedded with fibers for permanent stucco adherence. In essence, the stucco becomes part of the block upon application.

What are E-Z blocks made of?

E-Z blocks are made primarily of cement and entrapped air. Other additives are proprietary.

How do I shape the blocks?

Any cutting of the blocks can be accomplished by a simple hand saw. To create a smooth, perfect curve, a rasp can be purchased or made. to see examples of our blocks being shaped, click here...

Why don't your blocks require footings for decorative walls?

There are two factors that allow E-Z blocks to be laid for decorative walls without footings. One is the lightweight nature of the blocks, the other is their design. Our blocks were designed with houses and other structures in mind. They are used to create lintels over doorways and windows. This same characteristic, when applied to decorative walls, means that they will remain intact over areas where the ground has settled. For an example proving the strength of our walls, click here...
For straight walls, post holes must be dug to stabilize the wall laterally. The number of post holes needed will differ, depending on the height of the wall, along with other factors. The exact specifications can be determined by contacting E-Z Block Stystems, Inc. For meandering walls no post holes are necessary.

How long has E-Z Block Systems, Inc. been in business?

E-Z Block Systems, Inc. has been in business for approximately four years. Most of that time has been spent researching and developing ways to make our E-Z blocks, refining the techniques for both production and installation, creating a comprehensive installation manual, and registering with ICC. Both our production practices and equipment have been built to conform to our unique requirements without any preexiasting paradigm.
